Surgery coverage for children

We cover surgery of muscles and tendons. This can include injuries to the elbow, meniscus, ligaments, or heel spur. We do not cover, e.g., ear tubes or tongue-tie.

Your child can have surgery at one of the hospitals we work with. This helps make sure you get the right treatment. For children, it is especially important that the doctor is a specialist with extra training in treating children, e.g. a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon.

Yes, your child must have a referral from the specialist who has examined the child through Quick Diagnosis. The referral must contain information about what needs to be operated.

Yes, we cover follow-up care if your child’s surgery has been covered through your Health Scheme with us.

Yes, if your child has had surgery, we cover a rehabilitation programme through the Health Scheme.

Children and young people must give their own consent to treatment when they turn 15. At that time, you as a parent automatically lose access to the child’s digital health data on sundhed.dk. 

Therefore, it is the child who must give consent to examinations and treatment in the Health Scheme when the child turns 15. 

Only if the child gives consent can parents get access to the child’s health information.
