SRI Policy

As a pension fund PensionDanmark has a fiduciary obligation to pursue a high risk adjusted investment return. To a large degree this is in accordance with social, environmental and ethical considerations.

Public opinion and consumerism have added a further dimension to corporate life such that companies, which act irresponsibly or without consideration for the public sentiment, may run serious reputational and other risks, which could have a significant impact on their earnings and the value of their shares.

Ethical Guidelines

If a company violates generally accepted norms, PensionDanmark will decide to exclude that company from its investment universe.

PensionDanmark does not invest in companies, which deliberately and repeatedly violate laws and regulations laid down by national authorities on the markets in which the company operates, or deliberately and repeatedly violate laws and regulations laid down by international organisations ratified by Denmark.

PensionDanmark does not invest in companies that are domiciled in countries subjected to trade embargoes imposed by the United Nations or the European Union, which have been endorsed or otherwise officially ratified by Denmark.

PensionDanmark have signed the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI). A resume of PensionDanmark’s latest progress report on implementing the principles is available here.

The company has also joined the Carbon Disclosure Project and the Danish Social Investment Forum – Dansif.

Screening and Exclusion Procedure

On a regular basis PensionDanmark's equity portfolio is screened by an external partner, Foreign & Colonial (F&C). In short, the screening criteria reflect widely accepted principles on human rights, core labour standards and the environment. Decisions to exclude a company from PensionDanmark’s investment universe are taken on a case-by-case basis. As a principle PensionDanmark never comments on investment in individual companies.
